Twelve individuals, including 11 students from Minnekhada Middle School, were hospitalized Monday following an apparent electrical incident at Cultus Lake Waterpark in British Columbia’s Fraser Valley. The injuries occurred during a field trip involving Grade 6 and 7 students.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene around 11 a.m. and transported the injured to local hospitals. According to BC Emergency Health Services, ambulances, advanced care paramedics, and additional resources were deployed, with two patients requiring air ambulance transport. While the exact nature of the injuries has not been disclosed, authorities reported that all the injured were in stable condition.
Ken Hoff, assistant director of communications for the Coquitlam School District, confirmed that the students sustained unspecified injuries. The RCMP, meanwhile, indicated the incident involved serious injuries but emphasized that those affected were stable.
Investigations into the cause of the incident are ongoing. Initial findings by BC Hydro suggest that the electrical issue originated on the customer’s side rather than being linked to the utility’s infrastructure. The utility stated it is cooperating closely with the waterpark operator and supporting the inquiry.
Local RCMP representatives continue to gather information as the district and emergency services await further details. The safety of visitors remains a priority as authorities work to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident.
