A newborn baby girl found dead in the Wincobank area of Sheffield died from stab wounds, police have confirmed. The infant’s death prompted a murder investigation, leading to the arrest of seven individuals aged between 15 and 38. Two of those arrested, aged 26 and 37, have been released on bail, while five others remain in custody.

South Yorkshire police were alerted to concerns for the baby’s welfare at 5:58 a.m. on Sunday, which prompted a search of a property on Holywell Heights. The baby was discovered dead at the scene. A post-mortem examination subsequently determined that the cause of death was multiple stab wounds.

Detective Chief Inspector Tom Woodward acknowledged the emotional weight of the case, emphasizing the distress felt by those connected to the infant, emergency responders, and the local community.
