Baltimore began the post-Adley Rutschman portion of its season with a 3-1 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday, signaling a renewed focus following the trade deadline moves. The Orioles have now 50 games remaining in their schedule, carrying a 55-58 record.

The team called up left-hander Cade Povich to fill the rotation spot opened by Dean Kremer’s recent trade. Povich delivered a strong performance, tossing six scoreless innings while allowing seven hits and one walk. He also struck out a season-high seven batters in his first start for Baltimore since early May. The outing provided optimism that Povich can play a role in stabilizing the Orioles’ pitching staff as they approach the stretch run.

Baltimore also started catcher Carlos Narváez, who arrived as part of the deal involving Rutschman. Meanwhile, outfielder Christian Franklin, acquired from the Washington Nationals on Monday, made his major league debut and quickly made an impact. In his first plate appearance, Franklin drew a walk to begin the third inning, setting the stage for Pete Alonso’s one-out single to center field that extended Baltimore’s lead to 2-0.

The Angels mounted a threat in the eighth inning off Orioles reliever Andrew Kittredge. Nolan Schanuel scored after a fielding error by Christian Encarnacion-Strand allowed Vaughn Grissom to reach safely at third base. However, Moisés Ballesteros recorded a groundout two batters later to halt the rally.

Baltimore restored its two-run advantage in the bottom of the eighth when Tyler O’Neill, pinch-hitting, launched his eighth home run of the season. The solo shot proved to be the final run of the game.

By defeating the Angels, Baltimore shook off the emotional backdrop of trading franchise cornerstone Adley Rutschman and earned a positive start to the next phase of their season. The team will look to build on this momentum as they push through the remaining games.
