Real Madrid has officially denied any interest in signing Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández, dismissing recent transfer speculation as unfounded. The Spanish club issued a statement clarifying that it has taken no steps, directly or indirectly, to pursue the Argentina international and has no plans to do so.
Fernández, 25, has been linked with a move to Real Madrid amid reports sparked by his agent, Javier Pastore, who told Spanish media that the player was considering options to leave Chelsea and expressed his fondness for Madrid. The midfielder’s future at Chelsea has been a subject of public debate, especially after he was suspended for two weeks in April following comments that cast doubt on his commitment to the club. Fernández had publicly admitted uncertainty about his status at Chelsea next season and indicated a desire to live in Madrid.
Chelsea acquired Fernández in 2023 from Benfica for a British record fee of £106.8 million and have reportedly set a transfer valuation near £120 million. However, sources close to Real Madrid have previously indicated no real intent to pursue the player, a stance now confirmed by the club’s official denial. Real Madrid emphasized their respect for both Fernández and Chelsea, highlighting the strong institutional relationship between the two clubs and decrying the rumors as misleading and damaging to supporters and the parties involved.
Chelsea has yet to comment on the matter. The club recently appointed Xabi Alonso as head coach, which may influence Fernández’s situation going forward, as the player faces uncertainty both at Chelsea and within his own representation.
In other managerial news, Ange Postecoglou has been appointed head coach of Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr on a two-year contract. The 60-year-old Australian takes charge of a team led by Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo, who secured the Saudi Pro League title with Al-Nassr on the final day of the season in May. Postecoglou is looking to rebound from challenging recent spells in the English Premier League, including a brief and difficult tenure at Nottingham Forest that ended after just 39 days and eight winless games, and a controversial stint at Tottenham Hotspur where he won the Europa League in 2025 but was dismissed two weeks later following a poor league finish.
Separately, Sunderland have expressed confidence that midfielder Granit Xhaka will remain with the club despite interest from Chelsea. Sunderland rejected an £8 million offer for the 33-year-old, who had been linked to the Blues under new head coach Xabi Alonso, his former coach during their time at Bayer Leverkusen. Following discussions, Xhaka has reaffirmed his commitment to Sunderland ahead of their upcoming European campaign.
Manchester City are reportedly close to finalizing a deal to sell defender Nathan Aké to Turkish club Fenerbahçe for around £8.5 million, including add-ons. Aké’s limited appearances last season, partly due to injury, contributed to the decision. Additionally, Manchester United goalkeeper André Onana has returned to Trabzonspor on loan for the second consecutive season.
