Precise, trained by Aidan O’Brien, looks poised to reinforce her dominance at Royal Ascot following a strong comeback in the Irish 1,000 Guineas last month. The daughter of Starspangledbanner emerged as the leading two-year-old filly across Britain and Ireland in 2025, after a series of notable victories.
Although Precise was beaten at Fairyhouse on her debut last July, she quickly bounced back, capturing a Cork maiden race before progressing to win the Group 3 Prestige Stakes at Goodwood. She then secured Group 1 victories in the Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh and the Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket, cementing her status among the elite of her generation. These achievements had made her the pre-race favorite for the 1,000 Guineas early in the winter.
However, O’Brien revealed that a temperature disrupted Precise’s preparation for the Rowley Mile Classic, which perhaps contributed to her underwhelming performance. Despite starting as the 9-5 favorite with jockey Ryan Moore aboard, Precise finished seventh out of 19 runners behind her stablemate True Love.
Three weeks later at the Curragh, Precise showed a marked improvement in the Irish 1,000 Guineas. Ridden by Wayne Lordan, she took the lead inside the final furlong to claim victory by two and a half lengths over True Love, who was ridden by Moore in that race.
With Moore returning as her jockey for Royal Ascot, and her connections choosing to bypass the Oaks at Epsom, Precise is expected to confirm her class with a fourth top-level win. The competition is expected to come primarily from the likes of Touleen, who placed sixth at Newmarket, Balantina—the Breeders’ Cup winner—and Sukanya, who was also an unplaced runner in the Irish Guineas.
