Kalshi, a prediction market platform, has committed $3 million to nonprofit Housing Works to support the expansion of healthcare services in New York City. The multiyear donation, the largest single gift in Housing Works’ 36-year history, will focus on enhancing programs at the organization’s flagship 125th Street Health Center in East Harlem.

The funding aims to broaden access to healthcare, as well as job training and community support services, enabling the center to serve a larger patient population. The initiative intends to improve continuity of care, particularly for New Yorkers who face the risk of losing medical coverage.

This philanthropic move comes amid ongoing legal challenges for Kalshi in New York. Last month, Governor Kathy Hochul and Attorney General Letitia James filed a lawsuit against the company, alleging that Kalshi operates an illegal gambling business under state law. Kalshi has maintained its stance as a regulated financial exchange, designed to allow users to trade contracts based on the outcomes of future events.

Despite the legal dispute, Kalshi’s donation reflects a significant investment in public health resources within the city, signaling a commitment to community welfare as the company works through its regulatory issues. Housing Works, known for its integrated approach to healthcare and social services, anticipates that the additional resources will enhance its capacity to serve vulnerable populations in East Harlem and beyond.
