President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan has called for a nationwide prayer for rain, known as Salaat Al Istisqaa, to be held in mosques across the United Arab Emirates tomorrow. The prayer is scheduled to begin 30 minutes before the Friday congregational prayer.

The call to prayer is part of an established Islamic tradition aimed at seeking divine mercy during times of scarce or delayed rainfall. Salaat Al Istisqaa follows the Sunnah—the practices—of Prophet Muhammad, who performed this special supplication during droughts to request rain and blessings from Allah. Worshippers gather to pray collectively, asking for mercy and rainfall to benefit the land and its people.

This directive by Sheikh Mohamed continues the practice observed by UAE leaders on previous occasions when rainfall was urgently needed. The prayer is intended to unite the community in supplication for relief from dry weather conditions.

The request for the prayer comes as parts of Abu Dhabi experienced rainfall on Thursday afternoon. Areas including Al Samha, Sheikh Mohamed Bin Rashid Road, and Nahel Road northwest of Al Ain saw precipitation amid unsettled weather affecting portions of the country. The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) noted that the UAE is currently influenced by a weak surface pressure system, contributing to atmospheric instability.

Humidity levels are expected to remain elevated today over some coastal and inland areas. Sea conditions are forecast to be slight in both the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.

The organization of Salaat Al Istisqaa by the highest authority underscores the significance of water resources in the UAE and reflects the reliance on spiritual practices alongside meteorological efforts to address water scarcity challenges.
