Presley Gerber, the 27-year-old model and son of supermodel Cindy Crawford and entrepreneur Rande Gerber, died on September 20 at a sober living facility in Santa Monica, California, authorities confirmed. Police have launched an investigation into his death, which is being treated as a suspected overdose. Gerber had arrived at the Resolutions Living facility just a day earlier.
In the months leading up to his death, Gerber openly shared his struggles with addiction and mental health through social media, documenting a years-long battle that began in his adolescence. Starting in early 2023, he posted a series of candid videos titled “Mental Health Mondays” in which he recounted his experiences with anxiety, panic attacks, and substance use, describing his path through various treatments and rehabilitation programs.
Gerber revealed he was first prescribed Prozac at the age of 14 and later took a range of medications including Valium, Adderall, and buprenorphine, the latter used to treat opioid dependency. He expressed frustration and disillusionment with the traditional medical and rehab systems, describing what he called “a trap” that keeps individuals cycling through addiction. Despite this, he maintained hope for healing and recovery.
In March 2026, Gerber posted a video documenting his preparation for ibogaine treatment, a psychedelic therapy some advocate for its potential in addiction recovery. The video showed a ceremonial smoke cleansing, and its caption suggested cautious optimism: “Praying it’s the first time I have to come back.” This treatment was among his latest efforts to address his ongoing struggles.
The medical examiner’s office in Los Angeles County indicated that an official cause of death may take several months to determine. Meanwhile, California regulators are examining whether Resolutions Living, which is not licensed as a medical facility, provided services that required state licensing. The founder of Resolutions Therapeutic Services, psychologist Reza Nabavi, did not respond to requests for comment.
Experts who reviewed Gerber’s online reflections noted that his videos appeared to serve both as a means to hold himself accountable and to share his journey in hopes of helping others grappling with similar issues. Heather Huszti, chief psychologist at Rady Children’s Health in Orange County, said Gerber’s openness highlighted the complex interplay between mental health challenges and addiction.
Gerber grew up in Malibu in a prominent family. His mother, Cindy Crawford, remains a well-known figure in popular culture, while his father co-founded the tequila brand Casamigos with actor George Clooney. Presley Gerber had a successful modeling career, signing with IMG at 15 and working for brands such as Calvin Klein and Dolce & Gabbana.
However, his personal struggles with substances became public; he was arrested for driving under the influence at age 19 and openly discussed his mental health challenges in social media posts, including the significance of a facial tattoo he later removed. His online diaries revealed a complex history of psychiatric treatment beginning in early adolescence.
In the final months before his passing, Gerber paused his “Mental Health Mondays” series to focus on his wellbeing but returned with videos reflecting on his ongoing journey. His last public post, tied to his ibogaine treatment in March, reflected a hopeful but uncertain outlook on recovery.
Gerber’s death has sparked renewed conversation about addiction treatment and oversight for sober living facilities, underscoring the broader challenges faced by those struggling with substance use and mental illness.
