Prime Minister Tarique Rahman called on the Bangladesh Armed Forces to uphold the Constitution, legal frameworks, military regulations, and humanitarian principles while performing their duties. His remarks came during a National Standard presentation ceremony held on October 18 at Savar Cantonment, where several battalions and regiments of the Bangladesh Army were honoured.
In his address, Rahman emphasised the importance of modernising the armed forces to address evolving security challenges. He highlighted the government's focus on advancing domestic defence production and enhancing technological capabilities to strengthen national security. "An armed force’s strength is not limited to weapons, equipment or manpower. Its real strength lies in discipline, skills, leadership, morality, training and public trust," he stated, underscoring the critical role of effective leadership and adherence to the chain of command.
The prime minister acknowledged ongoing efforts to transform the military into a more technologically proficient and professional institution, placing particular emphasis on the development of a domestic defence industry capable of producing weapons, ammunition, and other necessary equipment. However, he cautioned that while technological advancements are vital, they cannot replace the human element within the armed forces.
Rahman also stressed the necessity of fostering integrated defence capabilities, enabling the army, navy, and air force to operate cohesively. This approach aims to improve coordination and operational effectiveness across the different branches of the military. The ceremony at Savar Cantonment serves as a symbolic occasion to reinforce these priorities as Bangladesh continues to enhance its defence posture amid a dynamic regional security environment.
