During his five-day visit to New York for the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman engaged in a series of high-level meetings, including with prominent Wall Street investors, to promote Bangladesh as an attractive destination for foreign investment. Emphasizing the country's growing financial sector, Rahman highlighted Bangladesh’s potential as a gateway to markets across the region.
The Prime Minister’s itinerary featured more than 30 formal events and bilateral discussions with representatives from 11 countries, covering key national priorities such as trade, investment, manpower export, energy security, regional cooperation, and the Rohingya crisis. Environmental and social issues, including healthcare, climate change, and the pursuit of global peace, were also prominent topics throughout the visit.
In addition to investment discussions, Rahman met with the president of the International Peace Institute and the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. These meetings focused on Bangladesh’s efforts to strengthen democracy, uphold the rule of law, and advance human rights within the country.
Further engagements with leaders from the Middle East aimed to deepen Bangladesh’s diplomatic and economic ties in the region, building on existing cooperation frameworks.
The Prime Minister’s visit underscored Bangladesh’s commitment to international collaboration and to positioning itself as a viable partner for global investors seeking opportunities in South Asia and beyond.
