Prince Harry’s request for a renewed assessment of his taxpayer-funded security arrangements has been delayed due to a backlog in the system responsible for evaluating risks to royals and politicians. The Royal and VIP Executive Committee (Ravec), which handles these evaluations, has suspended its risk assessments for at least four months amid a growing queue of requests.

The delay comes as the committee faces a surge in demand, with reports indicating that nine former Prime Ministers are also awaiting protection reviews. This backlog has effectively stalled the process, leaving outstanding cases unresolved.

In November of last year, Ravec ordered a new risk management evaluation for Prince Harry, marking the first reassessment of his security needs in six years. This followed the Duke’s unsuccessful High Court challenge against the government’s decision to withdraw his 24-hour police protection during visits to the United Kingdom. The ruling had confirmed the committee’s authority to make decisions on security provision based on risk assessments.

With the committee’s current suspension of evaluations, it remains unclear when Prince Harry’s case will be reviewed or what factors will influence any future security arrangements. The backlog further highlights challenges in managing protective services for high-profile figures amid growing demand and limited resources.
