The Princess of Wales visited Evelina London Children’s Hospital on Tuesday, spending time with patients and staff at various units within the hospital. As a patron of the hospital, Kate toured Edward Ward, a newly established cardiac centre based at St Thomas’ Hospital, where Evelina is located. During her visit, she met several young patients, including 14-year-old Hope and three-year-old Arjun, who has spent six months receiving care and was preparing to return home. The princess expressed encouragement to Arjun, acknowledging his upcoming discharge.
Following this, Kate made a private visit to the Galaxy Ward, a recently opened outpatient unit within the Children’s Day Centre. This facility enables children to receive face-to-face heart clinic appointments in a dedicated setting. Her tour concluded in the hospital’s atrium, where she met members of the children’s cancer programme team. Plans are underway to establish Evelina as a future Children’s Cancer Principal Treatment Centre, which aims to consolidate specialist services for pediatric cancer patients from across London and the South East into one location.
During the visit, Kate also interacted with parents of former patients who now participate in an advisory group supporting the hospital. The princess emphasized the importance of spaces where families can connect and share experiences. She notably shared a moment of affection with one-year-old patient Hebe, highlighting the personal and supportive nature of her engagement throughout the day.
