The investigation into the death of Tripura Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankar has intensified as the state police expanded the inquiry team in an effort to expedite the probe. Dhankar, a 1994-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Tripura cadre, was found dead under unclear circumstances on July 20 in the washroom attached to his official chamber at the state police headquarters.

Initially, a three-member team headed by West Tripura district Superintendent of Police Namil Pathak was formed on July 24 to look into the case. However, authorities have since increased the size of the team to ten members, with Pathak continuing to lead the investigation.

According to an official order, the reconstituted investigation team has been instructed to conduct all activities in accordance with legal procedures while maintaining confidentiality, professionalism, and impartiality. Officers assigned specific tasks are expected to execute them promptly and work in close coordination with other team members.

All officers involved in the probe are required to submit daily reports detailing the progress of the investigation, evidence gathered, technical analyses performed, and any proposed next steps. The move to broaden the investigative panel reflects the urgency and sensitivity surrounding the case, which remains under scrutiny as authorities seek to determine the circumstances behind Dhankar’s death.
