Fifteen-year-old Indian batsman Vaibhav Sooryavanshi set a new world record for the fastest List A half-century, reaching 50 runs in just 11 balls during a match between India A and Sri Lanka A at the Dambulla International Stadium. Sooryavanshi’s innings came in a 24-ball total of 94 runs, showcasing a remarkable display of power hitting.
Sooryavanshi, who recently earned the most valuable player award in the Indian Premier League (IPL) season and established a new benchmark by clearing the boundary 72 times, began his innings aggressively. He struck the first ball of the innings from Mohamed Shiraz for a four and followed it by scoring 26 runs, including three sixes, in Shiraz’s second over.
This performance surpassed the previous fastest List A half-century record set by Sri Lankan batsman Kaushalya Weeraratne, who reached 50 in 12 balls 21 years ago. Sooryavanshi’s record-breaking feat further enhances his reputation as one of the most promising young talents in international cricket.
Earlier in the tour, Sooryavanshi was involved in a physical altercation with an opposing player but has since maintained focus on his performance on the field. With his parents accompanying him on the tour, the young prodigy has demonstrated maturity and resilience in bouncing back to deliver historic results for India A.
