Mohammad Tipu Sultan, a noted human rights activist and former senior deputy director of Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK), died on Saturday at the age of 68. He passed away around 10:30 a.m. while receiving medical treatment in a hospital in Bengaluru, India, according to a statement released by ASK.

Sultan was an alumnus of Dhaka University’s Department of Social Welfare and was associated with ASK’s investigation unit for over two decades, from 1994 until 2016. During his tenure, he was actively involved in various efforts to safeguard civil and political rights and was instrumental in advocating for justice on behalf of victims of rights abuses.

Among his notable cases was his work related to Limon Hossain, a college student who was seriously injured by personnel from the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB). Sultan played a key role in efforts to address the incident and seek redress for Hossain and others subjected to rights violations.

Following Sultan’s death, ASK Executive Director Tahmina Rahman issued a condolence message, expressing sympathy to his family, colleagues, and supporters. She acknowledged his longstanding commitment to human rights advocacy and the impact of his work within the organization and beyond.
