Israeli prosecutors have signaled their intent to indict a man from Ramati Gan on charges related to a series of attacks targeting several Israeli media outlets and the Justice Ministry, police announced on Sunday. The suspect, a man in his 40s, was arrested on July 30 following an extended investigation linking him to five incidents of property damage and extortion by threats during July.

According to police, the attacks involved bricks being hurled at entrances of buildings housing Channel 12, Haaretz, Israel Hayom, and the Justice Ministry. Investigators believe these acts were aimed at intimidating media organizations and attempting to influence their news coverage.

The most recent incident occurred in the early hours of July 28, when a masked individual threw two bricks at the glass entrance of Channel 12’s Tel Aviv offices, shattering the doors. A threatening letter was found nearby, demanding that the network issue an apology for its coverage of the Sde Teiman affair and warned of further violence if the demand was not met. The letter included explicit threats against staff, stating, “Until you apologize over the Sde Teiman affair, I am not stopping,” and warning that the next attack could result in serious harm.

This July 28 attack was the second assault on Channel 12 during the month. On July 5, surveillance footage captured a masked individual throwing bricks at the same location, breaking the glass entrance. A police investigation was initiated following that earlier incident.

Additional attacks include one on July 8 at the entrance of Haaretz’s Tel Aviv offices, where bricks were thrown through the entrance gate, breaking the newspaper’s glass door. Haaretz responded by filing a police complaint and enhancing security measures at its premises.

While police confirmed that the investigation also pertains to damage at buildings housing Israel Hayom and the Justice Ministry, they did not provide further specifics on those incidents.

The suspect was identified through a combination of technological methods and undercover investigations. During a search of his residence, police confiscated clothing and other items they said linked him to the offenses. His detention has been extended multiple times since his arrest.

The submission of a declaration of intent to indict marks a formal step toward filing charges, with an indictment expected in the coming days. Israeli authorities emphasized the seriousness with which they regard attempts to intimidate journalists and media outlets, stating their commitment to combating violence or threats aimed at obstructing journalistic activity.
