Paris Saint-Germain secured a 4-2 victory over Barcelona in a high-scoring Champions League match on Tuesday, maintaining their position as one of Europe’s top clubs. The game at Parc des Princes saw goals from Desire Doue, Lucas Hernandez, Vitinha, and Fabian Ruiz for PSG, while Barcelona’s Xavi Espart and Lamine Yamal each scored twice to briefly level the contest in the second half.
Barcelona came into the match undefeated in all competitions this season but struggled to keep pace with a determined PSG side. The match’s intensity led to multiple injuries, with PSG’s Ousmane Dembele, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and Marquinhos, as well as Barcelona’s Dani Olmo, all forced to leave the field. PSG pressed early on, with Kvaratskhelia hitting the post within five minutes before Doue opened the scoring after capitalizing on a turnover by Yamal.
Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia made several key saves to keep his team in contention. Espart, starting his first Champions League game, orchestrated and finished a move to equalize in the 55th minute. After nearly adding to Barcelona’s tally when Ferran Torres hit the post, Hernandez restored PSG’s lead with a header from a corner in the 72nd minute. Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal again drew the sides level in the 79th minute with a fine individual effort. However, PSG responded quickly, with Vitinha scoring just under two minutes later. Fabian Ruiz sealed the win in stoppage time by converting a cross from Achraf Hakimi. The result placed PSG at the top of their Champions League group with nine points, narrowly ahead of Liverpool on goal difference.
Liverpool meanwhile staged a dramatic comeback to defeat Villarreal 4-3 at Anfield. The Spanish visitors took an early lead through Georges Mikautadze and doubled it before halftime via Sergi Cardona. Liverpool responded just before the break with a goal from Alexis Mac Allister, who later completed his brace to give the hosts the lead. Defender Ronald Araujo equalized for Villarreal during first-half stoppage time, but Mac Allister’s second goal and a strike from Florian Wirtz helped Liverpool pull ahead. Villarreal’s late goal from Tani Oluwaseyi reduced the deficit, but Liverpool held on to secure the three points.
Elsewhere, Atletico Madrid battled to a 1-1 draw against VfB Stuttgart. Jamie Leweling scored the first goal for Stuttgart before Julian Alvarez equalized in the second half. Atletico played the final portion of the match with 10 men following a red card shown to Morten Hjulmand. Napoli edged Bodo/Glimt 4-3 in a closely contested game, while PSV Eindhoven managed a narrow 1-0 victory over Porto. AS Roma recorded a comprehensive 4-0 win against Slovan Bratislava. Borussia Dortmund won 2-1 against Champions League newcomers Sabah, and Slavia Prague secured a 2-2 draw against Fenerbahce thanks to a late goal from Pavel Kacor.
