Boston’s pubs experienced a significant shortage of ale amid an influx of Scotland football fans, who arrived ahead of England’s match against Ghana on June 23. Scottish supporters, known as the Tartan Army, made their way through the city’s bars before continuing their travels to Miami, prompting many establishments to exhaust their beer supplies.

Several local venues reported struggling to keep up with demand as both Scottish and England fans frequented their premises. At Hennessy’s bar, Mark Richardson, a 29-year-old fan from north London, noted that a considerable amount of beer had already been consumed by the time England supporters arrived. However, he added that the Scottish fans had not entirely depleted the stock.

Despite efforts by pubs to replenish their ale through emergency deliveries, the high volume of patrons led to several establishments closing early due to a lack of beer. One barmaid commented that although new supplies were arriving daily, the bars often ran dry midway through the evening.

The situation highlights the challenges faced by local businesses during major sporting events that attract large numbers of visiting supporters. Both local authorities and pub owners continue coordinating efforts to manage crowd demands as the tournament progresses.
