KUWAIT CITY — The Public Authority for Food and Nutrition (PAFN) has intensified its efforts to ensure food safety through a series of recent inspections and seizures across Kuwait. The Technical Monitoring and Inspection Sector’s Imported Food Department confiscated multiple batches of “Danalac” goat milk formula after receiving a report via the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed that the product may contain the hazardous substance cereulide.

PAFN stated that all necessary precautionary and technical procedures were promptly implemented in line with established regulatory frameworks to safeguard public health. The authority also affirmed its ongoing commitment to monitoring international food safety alerts to prevent potential risks to consumers.

In a separate operation, the Capital Inspection Department’s Waterfront Food Inspection Center, working alongside the Ministry of Interior and Kuwait Municipality, seized about 234 kilograms of frozen shrimp in the Capital Governorate. The shrimp, of unidentified origin, had been improperly thawed for resale as fresh seafood. Authorities issued violation and destruction reports against the confiscated goods, which were deemed unfit for market distribution.

Additionally, the Jahra Inspection Department conducted thorough inspections at the central fruit and vegetable market in Jahra Governorate, covering 280 food establishments. This crackdown led to 52 citations for various violations uncovered within food warehouses. Large quantities of spoiled fruits and vegetables intended for sale were also seized. The violations identified included the sale of food unsuitable for human consumption, distribution of adulterated products, and non-compliance with mandated health and hygiene regulations. Legal actions have been initiated against the offenders.

These coordinated enforcement activities by PAFN and partner agencies reflect a heightened focus on curbing the circulation of contaminated and counterfeit food products in the country, aiming to protect consumer health and maintain food quality standards.
