Punk duo Bob Vylan has filed a defamation lawsuit against the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) following controversy arising from their performance at the Glastonbury Festival in June 2025. The group, known for their outspoken activism, performed on the West Holts Stage and sparked backlash after the lead singer led the audience in chants calling for "death, death to the IDF," a reference to the Israel Defense Forces.
In a statement posted on their official Instagram account, Bob Vylan accused the BBC of misrepresenting them in the aftermath of their performance. The duo asserted that the corporation "wasted no time in placing labels upon us that did not, do not and never will fit," arguing that the public broadcaster has failed to provide unbiased news coverage and does not adequately represent the interests of the public, which funds most of its operations.
The statement also reiterated the band’s ongoing support for the Palestinian cause and referenced their call for "justice for the Filton 25," a separate activist issue the band has been vocal about. Bob Vylan characterized their legal action as necessary to defend their reputation and principles.
Representatives for the BBC declined to comment on the legal proceedings or the statements made by the duo. The case highlights ongoing tensions surrounding political expression in the arts and the role of media organizations in framing contentious performances.
