KLANG — The Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom) plans to operate around the clock starting in January 2027 to enhance public convenience, pending the outcome of an upcoming trial period and resource availability.

Puspakom Chief Executive Officer Mahmood Razak Bahman announced the proposal following the recent extension of operating hours to seven days a week beginning this November. The full 24-hour service will be implemented based on public response to the new schedule, sufficient staffing levels, and operational capacity.

“We have consulted with the National Union of Commercial Workers as well as the Puspakom staff union to consider a work schedule that offers more reasonable hours — specifically reducing shifts from the current 12 hours to between eight and 10 hours daily, and increasing rest days from one to two per week,” Mahmood said.

This phased approach is intended to balance increased service availability with workforce welfare, which remains a key consideration before expanding to continuous operations.

The announcement came during the launch of the GiCheck Auto Weekend 2026 event at the Aeon Bukit Tinggi shopping complex here, where Transport Ministry Land Division Secretary Datuk Mohamed Irwan Mansor and Puspakom Chief Operating Officer Dr. Ahmad Zahiri Ismail were also present.

In addition to extended operating hours, Puspakom plans several other enhancements, including the introduction of a “community hero” recognition award aimed at acknowledging notable contributions, as well as expanding on-site vehicle inspection services for greater customer convenience.

The company’s efforts reflect a broader initiative to modernize and improve accessibility in vehicle inspection services across Malaysia, with upcoming changes contingent on operational success and workforce support.
