Russian President Vladimir Putin is reportedly preparing to launch missile strikes targeting countries that support Ukraine, according to Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk. Speaking to Poland’s parliament, Tusk warned of the growing threat following intelligence from Western agencies indicating Moscow’s intentions to escalate the conflict beyond Ukraine’s borders.

The heightened alert in Poland came after a recent Russian attack on western Ukraine near the Polish border, which involved a high-speed jet-powered drone. This strike followed another incident in which a Russian drone targeted a railway station close to the border, narrowly missing Western officials, including former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

In response to the threat, Poland has taken precautionary measures by closing its airspace, scrambling fighter jets, and shutting down airports. Tusk emphasized that the intelligence detailing Russia’s preparations for wider conflict is “very consistent,” and cautioned that Moscow might attempt to frame any future attacks as accidental to undermine NATO’s resolve.

British involvement remains a concern, as the United Kingdom is a key ally supporting Ukraine. NATO's Secretary-General Mark Rutte underscored the necessity for the UK to establish a “credible path” toward achieving its defense spending targets with steady annual increases, reflecting the alliance's focus on strengthening collective security amid escalating tensions.

While Russian drone incursions and reconnaissance flights into NATO airspace have occurred previously, missile strikes against member states or their allies would mark a significant escalation in the conflict. The developments underscore the growing risks faced by countries backing Ukraine as Russia’s military campaign shows little sign of nearing its objectives.

The Polish prime minister’s remarks highlight fears that Putin seeks to intimidate Ukraine’s Western supporters, pressuring them to withdraw assistance by expanding the battlefield beyond Ukraine itself.
