Russian President Vladimir Putin informed former U.S. President Donald Trump about Iran’s position on a potential Middle East peace agreement during a phone call on Friday, the Kremlin announced. The details of Iran’s stance were relayed to Trump following Putin’s recent discussions with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian at a regional summit held in Turkmenistan earlier this week. However, the Kremlin did not disclose Trump’s reaction or provide further specifics on Tehran’s views.

Efforts to resolve the ongoing conflict between Iran and the United States, which has extended for more than seven months, have stalled since the summer. The conflict initially escalated in February after coordinated strikes by U.S. and Israeli forces targeted Iranian assets. Despite a memorandum of understanding reached between Washington and Tehran in June outlining a framework to end hostilities, tensions intensified following Iranian attacks on ships traversing the Strait of Hormuz. This led to a renewed cycle of U.S. military operations in the region.

Putin has indicated a willingness to play a mediating role, seeking to facilitate dialogue between the parties. According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, Putin coordinated with Iranian leadership before conveying their views to Trump. This development comes as diplomatic channels remain strained, with recent indirect discussions between the United States and Iran near the United Nations General Assembly failing to yield significant progress toward de-escalation or a lasting agreement.
