Thousands of cyclists participated in the annual Sun Hung Kai Properties Hong Kong Cyclothon on October 11, taking to the streets of the West Kowloon Cultural District for a series of races. All events began and ended at the cultural hub, drawing a diverse field of riders ranging from amateurs to international professionals.
The day featured four distinct races, including a 56-kilometer ride that started at dawn, followed by a 32-kilometer event and a 100.4-kilometer UCI Class L1 road race. The latter attracted professional teams from overseas, intensifying the competition. Additionally, the event included the CEO Charity and Celebrity Ride, aimed at raising funds for local causes while engaging prominent figures in the cycling community.
The UCI road race was won by French rider Paul Magnier of the Soudal Quick-Step team, who completed the course in two hours, three minutes and 30 seconds. Vincent Lau Wan-yau was the highest-ranked local competitor, finishing 32nd, just 19 seconds behind Magnier.
Organizers and participants praised the event for promoting cycling culture and encouraging active lifestyles in Hong Kong. The West Kowloon Cultural District provided a scenic and accessible backdrop for the race, contributing to the event’s continued popularity among cyclists and spectators alike.
