Qadsia and Al-Arabi are set to face off in a highly anticipated derby on Sunday evening at Mohammed Al-Hamad Stadium, marking the seventh round of the Zain Premier League. The match, scheduled to kick off at 8:00 p.m., will also serve as a farewell for former Qadsia and Kuwait international Dhari Saeed, who will retire from professional football following the fixture.
Qadsia enters the derby in a stronger position, currently sitting third in the league standings with 12 points, just two points behind second-placed Kazma and four behind leaders Kuwait Club. The team also holds a game in hand, with its postponed fifth-round encounter against Sahel rescheduled for December 17. Alongside its domestic form, Qadsia has shown impressive performances in the AFC Challenge League, topping its group with an unbeaten record and advancing to the quarterfinals.
Conversely, Al-Arabi is looking to build momentum following a challenging start to the season. The Green Castle secured its first league win last round against Fahaheel after a run of three draws and one defeat, moving its points total to six and easing pressure near the bottom of the table. Like Qadsia, Al-Arabi has a postponed league match against Salmiya also set to take place on December 17. However, the club's continental campaign was less successful, finishing last in its AFC Challenge League group after three consecutive losses.
The early-season struggles contributed to the departure of Croatian coach Goran Sablic. National coach Mohamed Abdelnabi assumed interim charge before Bosnian Darko Nestorovic took over the reins, under whom the team recorded its recent victory. Despite these improvements, derby matches often defy current form and league standings, with both teams expected to approach the game with heightened focus and determination.
The match will also hold emotional significance as Dhari Saeed, a Qadsia stalwart born in 1987, will retire after nearly two decades of involvement with the club and national team. Saeed began his professional career with Qadsia in 2007, contributing to the club’s capture of more than 30 titles. He earned 18 caps for the Kuwait national team from 2012 to 2019, making him a respected figure in Kuwaiti football circles.
Earlier on Sunday, Jahra and Fahaheel meet in a 5:30 p.m. kickoff at Mubarak Al-Ayar Stadium in another league fixture. Jahra has accumulated four points so far, while Fahaheel sits higher with nine points as the season continues to unfold.
