Qatar has secured the top position in the Gulf region for Political Stability and Rule of Law, according to the World Bank’s 2026 update of the Worldwide Governance Indicators (WGI). The latest data further cements Qatar’s reputation as a regional exemplar of stability, governance, and security.

The National Planning Council (NPC) highlighted that Qatar also ranks within the top three in the region for Government Effectiveness, Control of Corruption, and Regulatory Quality. These rankings reflect the government’s focus on enhancing institutional performance, transparency, and integrity.

Since the previous WGI update, Qatar has shown improvements in four of the six governance dimensions: Political Stability rose to 83.86%, Government Effectiveness increased to 72.73%, Regulatory Quality reached 72.67%, and Control of Corruption climbed to 65.81%. The most notable advancement was seen in the Control of Corruption indicator, which improved by 2.74 points.

The World Bank’s Worldwide Governance Indicators assess governance quality in over 200 countries based on six dimensions: Voice and Accountability, Political Stability, Government Effectiveness, Regulatory Quality, Rule of Law, and Control of Corruption. The NPC stated that Qatar’s enhanced scores underscore ongoing efforts aligned with the Qatar National Vision 2030 to strengthen governmental efficiency and institutional frameworks.

Officials noted that sustained attention to governance will remain vital, emphasizing the use of international benchmarks like the WGI to inform policy priorities and guide national development strategies.
