The Qatar Amateur Radio Society, in partnership with the Qatar Scouts and Guides Association, took part in the annual Jamboree on the Air – Jamboree on the Internet (JOTA-JOTI) event on October 17, 2026. This global initiative brings together scouts and guides from around the world, enabling them to communicate, exchange knowledge, and develop skills related to technology, communication, and teamwork.

During the event, the Qatar Amateur Radio Society operated a radio station from its headquarters under the special event call sign "A71A-JOTA." The Society’s vice-president, Dr. Ahmed bin Hamad al-Mohannaidi, highlighted the importance of the collaboration with the Qatar Scouts and Guides Association in organising the event, noting the continued commitment of the Society to promote amateur radio since its establishment on June 17, 1991.

Dr. al-Mohannaidi emphasized the educational role of the Society in training youth, enhancing their scientific and technical abilities, and fostering cooperation with amateur radio organizations internationally. He also provided background on JOTA and JOTI, explaining that the Jamboree on the Air was launched in 1958 with the internet-based Jamboree on the Internet added in 1996. Together, these activities create a platform for scouts and guides worldwide to connect, exchange experiences, and encourage interest in science and technology.

The vice-president extended his gratitude to the Qatar Scouts and Guides Association, including its leadership and participants, as well as members of the Qatar Amateur Radio Society for their efforts in organising and ensuring the success of the event. He expressed hopes that the participants would gain a rewarding experience, broadening their horizons and fostering connections with peers globally.

JOTA allows scouts to communicate through amateur radio stations, facilitating the sharing of ideas and scouting experiences, while JOTI runs simultaneously to enable connections through internet technologies. Both components aim to promote mutual understanding, cultural exchange, and reinforce the principles of cooperation and belonging within the worldwide scouting community.
