Senior officials from Qatar and Saudi Arabia convened in a virtual meeting on July 27 to explore avenues for enhancing bilateral cooperation in trade and logistics. The discussion focused on facilitating trade flows, streamlining customs coordination, and improving logistics efficiency between the two Gulf neighbors.
The videoconference featured Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Trade, Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Sayed, alongside key Saudi figures including Dr. Rumaih bin Mohammed Al Rumaih, vice minister of transport and logistic services; Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Abduljabbar, acting governor of the General Authority for Foreign Trade; and Musa bin Ahmed Al Barqi, deputy minister for logistics services at the Saudi Ministry of Transport and Logistic Services.
Representing Qatar were Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Jamal, chairman of the General Authority of Customs; Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Ibrahim Al-Maadeed, undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport; and Bandar bin Mohammed Al Attiyah, ambassador to Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia was further represented by HRH Prince Saad bin Mansour bin Saad bin Saud bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, ambassador to Qatar, together with several senior officials from both countries.
Participants reviewed a broad range of issues aimed at reinforcing trade and transport links, with particular attention given to simplifying customs procedures and enhancing the efficiency of logistics services. Discussions also touched on creating a more seamless trade environment that could facilitate the movement of goods across borders.
Both sides underscored the importance of institutional cooperation to improve connectivity and support increased bilateral trade. The meeting highlighted the shared commitment of Qatar and Saudi Arabia to deepen collaboration in foreign trade, transport, and logistics sectors as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen economic ties within the Gulf Cooperation Council framework.
