Qatar and the United States are seeking to broaden their economic partnership by focusing on strategic sectors such as trade, investment, energy, technology, and infrastructure, officials said during a recent event in Washington.
Dr. Ahmad bin Mohammed al-Sayed, Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Trade, took part in the opening session of the Concordia Summit on Wednesday, an event organized by the Concordia Foundation in cooperation with the Qatari Embassy in the US. The summit gathered senior officials, business leaders, and experts to discuss global economic issues.
During a panel discussion, Dr. al-Sayed highlighted developments in global supply chains and trade routes, underscoring Qatar’s efforts to enhance economic connectivity between the US, the Gulf region, and global markets. He stressed the importance of moving beyond mere trade exchanges toward forming partnerships and joint ventures in key sectors. Strengthening supply chain resilience through diversification of suppliers, markets, and trade routes was a particular area of focus, which he said would contribute to a more interconnected and robust economic relationship between the two countries.
In addition to his participation at the summit, Dr. al-Sayed held several bilateral meetings with senior US officials and business leaders. His engagements included discussions with Jacob Helberg, Senior Advisor to the Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment; Jeffrey Kessler, Under Secretary of Commerce for Industry and Security; Mark Mitchell, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce for the Middle East and Africa; and the President of the Inter-American Development Bank, among others.
The discussions aimed to explore ways to deepen trade and investment ties between Qatar and the US, as well as to identify opportunities for cooperative projects in priority sectors. The meetings also sought to enhance communication between the business communities of both countries and to promote public–private partnerships.
These activities reflect ongoing efforts by Qatar and the United States to build a more integrated economic partnership capable of addressing evolving global challenges and opportunities.
