Dr. Joseph Timothy Rivera, a Filipino community leader and media professional based in Qatar, has been named the official foreign news correspondent for the Gulf region by Bilyonaryo News Channel (BNC). His appointment marks a new chapter in his career, as he assumes responsibility for reporting on Qatar, with non-resident coverage extending to Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan.

In this role, Rivera will deliver on-the-ground news and feature stories aimed at connecting Filipino audiences worldwide with developments in the Gulf. BNC plans to showcase its increased focus on international reporting with a special live broadcast titled “SONA 2026: Beyond the Address,” scheduled for July 27 at 2 p.m. Philippine time. The program will offer overseas perspectives following President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s State of the Nation Address.

Rivera brings a broad portfolio of experience to the role, combining media work with leadership in business and community service. He is the founding chairman of the Association of Filipino Real Estate Executives in Qatar (AFREEQ), where he promotes professional development and industry collaboration among Filipino expatriates in the Gulf. His work has spanned initiatives supporting economic empowerment, investment, and advocacy for overseas Filipino workers.

Among his accolades is the Global Economic Leadership & Community Empowerment Award, which he received in 2025. Rivera’s background includes consultancy work with the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) and active participation in regional advocacy.

Prior to joining BNC, Rivera maintained an active presence in overseas Filipino media. He co-anchored “Bantay OFW” on DWDD AFP Radio for four years and served as an overseas correspondent for “OFW Juan” on the same network. For six years, he was the Middle East International News Correspondent for Bombo Radyo Philippines, affiliated with its Iloilo-based station, DYFM Bombo Radyo Iloilo. His reporting has covered major news affecting Filipinos abroad, including regional security concerns and high-profile international events such as the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

Through his enhanced role at BNC, Rivera is expected to continue providing detailed coverage of Filipino communities and regional affairs across the Gulf, delivering timely reports and local insights to viewers around the world.
