Qatar Charity has launched an emergency relief operation in North Kordofan State, Sudan, to assist families displaced by recent conflict and those affected by severe weather conditions. The organization provided vital support to both groups following intensified military clashes and a destructive cyclone that struck the region earlier this year.

Since August, escalating fighting in Um Arda and surrounding areas forced thousands to seek refuge in El Obeid, the state capital. In response, Qatar Charity distributed 3,600 food baskets, reaching approximately 21,000 displaced individuals to address their immediate nutritional needs.

Simultaneously, the charity extended aid to communities in Um Rawaba Locality, where heavy rains, flooding, and a cyclone severely damaged homes in Al-Ghubsha. The severe weather event displaced nearly 400 families after widespread structural collapses. Qatar Charity supplied essential food items to these affected households to help them cope with the aftermath.

Dr. Mohammed Ismail, Humanitarian Aid Commissioner for North Kordofan, commended Qatar Charity’s intervention during a recent distribution event. He highlighted the organization’s support for local community kitchens and school feeding programs and called for continued assistance throughout the ongoing emergency.

Ahmed Abdel Wahid, executive director of Um Rawaba Locality, emphasized the scale of the recent natural disasters impacting Al-Ghubsha and praised Qatar Charity’s swift response. He noted that the aid efforts underscored the enduring ties between the Qatari and Sudanese peoples and were well received by those affected.

The comprehensive relief initiative aims to alleviate the humanitarian impact of both the conflict and the environmental crisis in North Kordofan, reflecting an urgent effort to support vulnerable populations facing multiple overlapping challenges.
