Qatar Charity has distributed 250 Braille copies of the Holy Quran, known as the “Baseera Mushaf,” to individuals with visual impairments in Kosovo and Albania. The initiative aims to help recipients read, listen to, and memorize the Quran more independently.

Of the total distribution, 160 copies were delivered in Kosovo and 90 in Albania. The effort was carried out in coordination with Islamic authorities and local organizations in both countries. Since its launch in 2014, the program reflects Qatar Charity’s ongoing commitment to providing accessible religious texts to blind individuals in underserved communities worldwide.

In Kosovo, Qatar Charity’s local office worked with the Islamic Community of Kosovo to identify potential beneficiaries. The Community noted that approximately 300 visually impaired people could benefit from the Braille Mushaf, indicating a demand that exceeds the current allocation. The 160 copies were distributed during an event at the Faculty of Islamic Studies in Pristina, which was attended by Kosovo’s Chief Imam.

In Albania, the organization partnered with the Albanian Muslim Community to identify and reach beneficiaries. The distribution event in the coastal city of Durrës involved 30 recipients and was attended by Ms. Wissam Al Jafiri, Minister Plenipotentiary and representative of the Qatari Embassy. The remaining copies are scheduled for delivery through local mufti offices in collaboration with relevant authorities.

The distribution events underscored the humanitarian and educational benefits of providing accessible religious materials to people with disabilities. Recipients expressed appreciation for opportunities to engage with the Quran through multiple methods including reading, listening, and memorization. The initiative also strengthened cooperation with local Islamic institutions and highlighted the importance of designing inclusive humanitarian programs that address the specific needs of persons with disabilities.
