Qatar Charity has inaugurated a new office in Cairo, marking an effort to enhance humanitarian and development cooperation between Qatari and Egyptian organizations. The opening ceremony took place recently in Egypt’s capital and was attended by several senior officials, including Dr. Maya Morsy, Egypt’s Minister of Social Solidarity; Sheikh Hamad bin Nasser bin Jassim Al Thani, Chairman of Qatar Charity’s Board of Directors; and Sheikh Jassim bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, Qatar’s Ambassador to Egypt and Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States.
The establishment of the Cairo office—Qatar Charity’s 35th field office worldwide—is intended to serve as a hub for coordinating humanitarian programs, facilitating the exchange of expertise, and fostering partnerships aimed at supporting vulnerable communities both within Egypt and in neighboring regions affected by ongoing crises. The organization’s work extends to roughly 70 countries through its network of field offices and collaboration with United Nations agencies, international humanitarian groups, and local charities.
Sheikh Hamad bin Nasser bin Jassim Al Thani highlighted the strategic importance of the new office, emphasizing that proximity to affected communities and alignment with national institutions and strategies enhances the effectiveness of humanitarian action. He expressed gratitude to both the Qatari leadership, particularly Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi for their support in facilitating the expansion of humanitarian initiatives. Sheikh Hamad noted that Qatar Charity plans to invest over QR 36 million (approximately US$10 million) in development and social welfare programs through the new office.
Dr. Maya Morsy described the opening as a significant step in broadening cooperation between Egypt and Qatar. She underscored the history of collaboration between Qatari and Egyptian institutions, especially in response to humanitarian crises such as those experienced in the Gaza Strip since October 2023. Dr. Morsy stressed the importance of partnerships built on mutual trust and the integration of expertise to deliver timely aid to those in need. She also highlighted that Egypt’s Ministry of Social Solidarity views civil society organizations as crucial partners in social work and welcomed initiatives that promote knowledge sharing, capacity building, and models of good governance.
Sheikh Jassim bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani echoed the sentiment that the new office reflects the close fraternal ties between the two countries and Qatar’s dedication to responsible humanitarian work. He expressed optimism that the Cairo office would become a central point for cooperation between Egyptian and Qatari institutions, supporting efforts to improve living conditions and empower vulnerable populations through effective project implementation.
Since 2026, Qatar Charity has collaborated with prominent Egyptian institutions on 37 projects valued at over QR 12 million, benefiting more than 277,000 people in Egypt and countries facing prolonged crises, including Palestine, Sudan, and Yemen. These initiatives have focused on areas such as food security, healthcare, shelter, water and sanitation, and social welfare.
The inauguration ceremony also featured a presentation outlining Qatar Charity’s nearly four decades of humanitarian work and its vision for expanding development partnerships in the region. Dr. Morsy was honored during the event for her support in facilitating the opening of the new office, which both sides regard as a milestone in advancing coordinated humanitarian action between Qatar and Egypt.
