The 2027 Formula 1 calendar has been finalized, confirming the return of the Qatar Airways Qatar Grand Prix to the Lusail International Circuit (LIC) from December 3 to 5. Scheduled as the 23rd round of the season, this event will serve as the penultimate race in a 24-race schedule, which notably includes the comeback of the Turkish and Portuguese Grands Prix after several years of absence.

Since making its debut in 2021, the Lusail International Circuit has established itself as a prominent venue in the Formula 1 world, joining a limited number of tracks to host the sport’s three major motorsport events: Formula 1, MotoGP, and the FIA World Endurance Championship. The circuit has gained a reputation for delivering close, high-speed racing on its 5.38-kilometer layout featuring 16 turns and multiple overtaking opportunities. Additionally, the track’s advanced lighting system enhances the night-race atmosphere, making it one of the more visually distinctive stops on the calendar.

The 2027 race weekend will once again include the Sprint format, with the Lusail International Circuit among only 10 venues to use the shorter Saturday race. These Sprint events cover roughly 100 kilometers and offer their own points and podium, providing fans with an extra competitive spectacle ahead of the main Grand Prix on Sunday.

As the Qatar Grand Prix falls near the end of the championship, it holds considerable strategic importance for drivers and teams vying for both the Drivers’ and Constructors’ titles. The event’s timing means that every point gained or lost could be pivotal in the final race of the season.
