The Qatar Diamond Exchange (QDE) has entered into a strategic partnership with the London Diamond Bourse (LDB) through a recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing collaboration between the diamond trading sectors of Qatar and the United Kingdom. The agreement was formalized in London by QDE director Ghanim al-Saadi and LDB president Charlotte Rose.
This development forms part of QDE’s broader initiative to expand its international network and deepen engagement with established diamond markets worldwide. Under the terms of the MoU, the two organizations will foster business connections among their members, promote commercial partnerships, and facilitate mutual introductions. The framework encourages bilateral visits and reciprocal involvement in industry events such as tenders, auctions, and viewings hosted by either exchange.
Both parties emphasized a joint commitment to reinforcing consumer confidence in natural diamonds and colored gemstones. This includes supporting adherence to internationally recognized industry standards, notably the World Diamond Council’s System of Warranties and programs led by the Responsible Jewellery Council.
Al-Saadi noted that London’s longstanding status as a global diamond trading hub makes the partnership a significant milestone for QDE’s international outreach. He highlighted the potential for Qatari traders to tap into new markets and strengthen commercial ties, with the broader goal of positioning Qatar as a reliable and connected center for the global diamond trade.
Rose underscored the importance of linking established and emerging markets to safeguard the future of the diamond industry. Pointing to Qatar’s strategic location in the Gulf region, she described the agreement as a framework that will enable members of both exchanges to explore new commercial opportunities and exchange industry knowledge. She expressed optimism about the partnership’s capacity to deliver measurable benefits and contribute to the sustained growth of the natural diamond sector.
This MoU builds on QDE’s expanding roster of international collaborations established in 2023, following prior agreements with exchanges in Singapore, Shanghai, Tokyo, Italy, and Hong Kong. These partnerships collectively strengthen Qatar’s integration into established diamond trading networks and support its ambitions to facilitate greater international trade and cooperation within the industry.
