The Qatar Diamond Exchange (QDE) has become a member of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB), the global body that brings together leading diamond exchanges under unified trading rules and a shared code of conduct. This development was announced at the 41st World Diamond Congress held in Singapore from July 12 to July 15, 2026, an event organized jointly by the WFDB and the International Diamond Manufacturers Association (IDMA) and hosted by the Diamond Exchange of Singapore.
Mehul Shah, president of the WFDB, welcomed QDE’s admission, highlighting Qatar’s potential in the diamond sector due to its stable business environment, strong purchasing power, and strategic geographical location. Shah also announced that Qatar will host the WFDB’s 2027 annual presidents’ meeting, marking the first time the event will be held in the country.
Qatar entered the global diamond trade in 2021 by joining the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme, which aims to prevent conflict diamonds from entering the market. Joining the WFDB now further integrates Qatar into the international diamond trade, providing its member companies with reciprocal recognition among all federation exchanges, access to a standardized arbitration system, and assurance that trading activities adhere to the stringent WFDB Code of Conduct.
Ghanim Nasser Al Saadi, director of the Qatar Diamond Exchange, described the membership as a significant endorsement, noting that it confirms QDE’s alignment with global industry standards. He emphasized that hosting the 2027 presidents’ meeting will provide global diamond industry leaders an opportunity to experience Qatar’s exchange firsthand.
The admission into the WFDB follows QDE’s recent induction into the World Diamond Council (WDC), the organization representing the diamond industry within the Kimberley Process framework. With its memberships in both bodies, QDE commits to operating under the WDC System of Warranties and the WFDB Code of Conduct, reinforcing its dedication to responsible and transparent trade practices.
QDE’s integration into these international organizations complements Qatar’s broader economic diversification goals under the Qatar National Vision 2030, opening new avenues for the country within the global diamond sector.
