Qatar took part in the 32nd meeting of the committee of undersecretaries from the electricity and water ministries of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, held via videoconference. The session was a preparatory step ahead of the upcoming ministerial meeting on electricity and water affairs scheduled for October 5 in Bahrain.

Eng. Abdullah bin Ali al-Theyan, president of Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa), represented Qatar at the meeting. According to a statement from Kahramaa, the agenda included reviewing a draft of topics to be presented at the ministerial gathering, assessing the progress of previous committee decisions, and discussing multiple joint initiatives designed to bolster cooperation and integration across the GCC states in the electricity and water sectors.

Key items on the agenda included updates on water interconnection projects among member states and reports on the activities of the GCC Interconnection Authority (GCCIA) as well as the Advisory and Regulatory Committee for Electrical Interconnection. Participants examined proposals aimed at strengthening the electrical interconnection network and improving frameworks for cooperation and energy exchange within the Gulf region.

The meeting also addressed progress in specialized GCC committees, such as the Water Resources Committee, the Committee on Electricity and Water Conservation and Customer Services, and the New and Renewable Energy Committee. Discussions extended to various relevant programs, workshops, and events related to the electricity and water fields.

Additionally, the delegates reviewed initiatives and proposals focused on enhancing the security and sustainability of regional electricity and water infrastructure. Strengthening coordination mechanisms among GCC states was a priority throughout the session. The deliberations sought to support a unified approach for managing resources and infrastructure vital to the Gulf’s development and energy security.
