Doha — Students from Qatar Foundation (QF) engaged in a variety of enriching experiences during the summer, participating in programs designed to foster new skills, ignite passions, and promote personal growth beyond the classroom. The initiatives included a specialized music program abroad and a local sports camp, both aimed at broadening the educational and extracurricular horizons of QF’s Pre-University Education students.

Eight students from Qatar Music Academy, part of QF’s Pre-University Education, spent the summer at the Reina Sofía School of Music in Spain. The program focused on advancing their musical abilities while exposing them to diverse artistic perspectives. Participants dedicated long hours to intensive practice and workshops, which emphasized technical proficiency and performance skills.

Reflecting on her experience, violinist Talia Chourhury highlighted her growth in stage presence and bowing technique, along with the opportunity to explore behind-the-scenes aspects of opera. “Watching other musicians and learning from their approaches was truly inspiring,” she said, noting that these insights encouraged her to set new artistic goals.

Similarly, cellist Fredrick Saba described the experience as both professionally and personally rewarding. He praised the opportunity to engage with talented instructors and peers from various backgrounds. “It strengthened my confidence, deepened my passion for music, and left me with memories that will stay with me for a lifetime,” he commented.

Another participant, violinist Sean Carey, noted that the rigorous six-hour daily practice schedule led to significant improvements in his playing. He also valued the multicultural environment and the chance to develop a fresh perspective on his instrument and performance techniques.

Meanwhile, on home ground at Education City, female students participated in “Mukhayamna,” a QF Pre-University Education summer camp offering a range of activities, including sports. Several students discovered a newfound enthusiasm for cycling, opting to continue their training with Qatar’s cycling federation after the camp concluded.

Shaikha Nasser Alattiyah, one of the participants, described how the camp allowed her to explore different sports and identify cycling as her preferred pursuit. She expressed hopes of advancing her skills, competing in tournaments, and eventually representing Qatar internationally. “The camp was a wonderful start to my journey in sport,” she said, emphasizing the confidence and strength she gained through the experience.

Together, these summer initiatives underscore Qatar Foundation’s commitment to nurturing young talent by providing diverse opportunities that extend learning beyond the traditional classroom, encouraging students to develop new abilities and pursue their passions.
