Qatar and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) formalized a new partnership through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening cooperation on mediation, humanitarian action, and the promotion of international humanitarian law. The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The MoU was endorsed by Qatar’s Minister of State for International Co-operation, Dr. Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser al-Misnad, and Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, president of the ICRC. Through this accord, both parties intend to enhance collaborative efforts addressing humanitarian challenges and support initiatives grounded in the principles and rules of international humanitarian law.

The timing of the agreement at the UN General Assembly highlights the ongoing global focus on facilitating dialogue and providing humanitarian assistance in conflict-affected areas. Qatar’s engagement with the ICRC reflects its commitment to playing an active role in international humanitarian affairs and conflict mediation.

The ICRC, known for its neutral humanitarian work in conflict zones, will coordinate with Qatar to implement activities under the MoU’s framework, fostering stronger partnerships and advancing the protection of civilians in crises.
