Qatar Islamic Bank (QIB) has elevated its MSCI Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) rating from 'BBB' to 'A' as of August, marking the fourth consecutive year of improvement. This advancement positions QIB among the highest-rated organisations in Qatar in terms of ESG performance.
The upgrade reflects QIB’s ongoing commitment to integrating global best practices in corporate sustainability. Key initiatives contributing to this progress include enhancing governance frameworks, embedding ESG considerations into risk management and product development, improving data quality and disclosures, and increasing transparency across operations.
Notably, the Environmental Pillar recorded the most significant gains, driven by deeper integration of environmental factors into the bank’s financial products and risk assessment processes. Improvements in the Social Pillar were attributed to focused efforts on human capital development, data privacy, consumer protection, and expanding access to finance.
QIB’s Chief Executive Officer, Bassel Gamal, expressed pride in achieving the 'A' rating, underscoring the bank’s intent to leverage this momentum to generate sustainable long-term value for stakeholders.
MSCI ESG Ratings evaluate companies based on their resilience to long-term sustainability risks and are increasingly influential in investment decision-making processes. The latest upgrade enhances QIB’s credibility with both regional and international ESG investors and aligns with the objectives outlined in Qatar National Vision 2030.
