Qatar has unveiled Doha Investment, a new platform aimed at accelerating the country’s next phase of economic growth by focusing on non-hydrocarbon sectors and boosting private sector involvement. The announcement was made on Sunday by Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani during the Qatar Economic Forum: UNGA Special Edition, powered by Bloomberg.

Doha Investment has been established to actively manage and develop Qatar Investment Authority’s (QIA) domestic investment portfolio. This includes some of Qatar’s leading companies, often referred to as national champions, such as Qatar Airways Group, QNB Group, Ooredoo Group, Qatari Diar, Katara Hospitality, and Hassad Food. These firms operate globally and contribute significantly to Qatar’s economy.

At launch, Doha Investment’s portfolio consists of more than 40 companies with a presence in over 80 markets worldwide. The portfolio spans a wide range of sectors including financial services, transportation and logistics, telecommunications, technology, real estate, hospitality, food, and agriculture. More than twenty of these companies recorded revenues exceeding QR1 billion in 2025.

Beyond supporting the existing national champions, Doha Investment seeks to cultivate new leaders in strategic sectors such as advanced technologies, manufacturing, supply chain management, and healthcare. Among its initiatives is Qai, a national artificial intelligence platform designed to facilitate the deployment of trusted AI solutions across enterprises and society in Qatar.

His Excellency Sheikh Faisal bin Thani Al Thani, who serves as Minister of Commerce and Industry as well as Managing Director and Vice Chairman of Doha Investment, emphasized the platform’s role as a long-term, proactive partner to its portfolio companies. He noted that Doha Investment will collaborate closely with management teams to unlock new sources of value and enhance their competitiveness regionally and internationally. The platform also intends to engage with local and global investors to build the next generation of Qatari national champions by combining capital, expertise, and technology.

Doha Investment is expected to contribute to creating high-skilled jobs, strengthening local supply chains, and developing national talent. It aims to increase the number of high-value companies, thereby deepening Qatar’s capital markets and consolidating the country’s standing as an attractive destination for international investors and high-growth businesses.

The initiative aligns with the goals of Qatar’s Third National Development Strategy (NDS3), which seeks to diversify the economy and position the private sector as a central driver of sustainable growth.
