Qatar has advanced its standing in the global real estate market transparency rankings, moving up to 63rd place out of 88 markets in the 2026 Global Real Estate Transparency Index (GRETI). The index, compiled by international real estate consultancy JLL, assesses markets based on criteria such as data availability, regulatory frameworks, transaction processes, and overall transparency.

This marks an improvement from Qatar’s 68th position in the 2024 edition and places the country among the 10 most improved markets worldwide. The rise reflects ongoing efforts to enhance transparency and regulatory oversight in the nation’s real estate sector.

Qatar’s Real Estate Regulatory Authority (Aqarat) highlighted the latest ranking on its X social media account, emphasizing significant progress in transparency across Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, including Qatar. The authority attributed this advancement to sustained initiatives aimed at strengthening the real estate regulatory environment, improving access to reliable market data, and fostering an integrated property ecosystem.

Authorities in Qatar view greater real estate transparency as a mechanism to enhance investor confidence and boost the country's attractiveness as a destination for real estate investment. By refining the regulatory framework and promoting data accessibility, Aqarat aims to support sustainable growth and elevate market practices, providing clearer guidance for investors, developers, property owners, and other stakeholders.

During a period of continued sector development, Qatar has focused on upgrading its institutional and regulatory infrastructure to align with international standards. The GRETI report signals progress in these areas and underscores the importance of transparency in ensuring long-term market efficiency and sustainability.

The Global Real Estate Transparency Index is widely utilized by investors, financial institutions, and policymakers to gauge the openness and efficiency of real estate markets globally. Its comprehensive methodology evaluates each market on multiple dimensions including the quality and availability of real estate information, legal and regulatory frameworks, and transactional processes.

Qatar’s improved ranking from 68th in 2024 to 63rd in 2026 highlights the country’s ambition to build a more transparent, competitive, and resilient real estate sector in line with broader economic diversification and development goals.
