Qatar marked the second annual Purple Saturday in 2026, a national initiative aimed at promoting the inclusion and empowerment of people with disabilities. Organized by Qatar Tourism through Visit Qatar, in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Development and Family and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the event emphasizes improving accessibility and fostering inclusive experiences across the country’s tourism sector.
As part of the observance, Qatar Calendar hosted a special Purple Saturday celebration during the Qatar Toy Festival, offering complimentary access to individuals with disabilities. In a visible demonstration of support for the cause, several prominent buildings and landmarks throughout Qatar were illuminated in purple.
Ahmed Al Binali, director of Festivals and Events at Visit Qatar, highlighted the initiative’s role in advancing Qatar’s goal of becoming a more inclusive destination. “For the second consecutive year, Qatar Tourism, through its promotional arm Visit Qatar, is proud to support Purple Saturday as part of our commitment to making Qatar a more inclusive and accessible destination,” he said. Al Binali noted ongoing cooperation with government ministries and tourism partners to enhance accessibility within the sector.
In addition to events and visual displays, participating hotels, retail outlets, and other tourism stakeholders offered exclusive discounts and improved accessibility services during Purple Saturday. The initiative reflects Qatar’s broader efforts to create an environment that allows people with disabilities to access services and public experiences independently, further reinforcing social inclusion and responsibility nationwide.
