Qatar has introduced a new scholarship pathway designed to support student athletes in pursuing higher education alongside their sporting careers, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education announced. The initiative, launched under the Government Scholarship Programme, aims to identify and nurture national athletic talent while facilitating academic achievement.
The Higher Education Affairs Sector of the ministry unveiled the dedicated sports scholarship track during an orientation session for gifted students. The event, organized in coordination with the Ministry of Sports and Youth, was attended by students, their families, and representatives from related organizations.
According to the ministry, the program targets high-potential athletes who wish to balance university studies with competitive sports. It is intended to develop graduates who are both academically accomplished and capable of representing Qatar in international competitions, thus contributing to broader national development objectives.
Scholarships under the new track will be awarded based on demonstrated sporting talent. Eligible students can enroll in a variety of academic disciplines at participating higher education institutions in Qatar, with access to tailored support that accommodates ongoing athletic training and competition commitments.
To qualify, candidates must receive nominations from the Ministry of Sports and Youth and the Qatar Olympic Committee and meet the general eligibility criteria set by the Government Scholarship Programme. Additionally, they must secure an unconditional admission offer from a university participating in the scholarship scheme and agree to maintain a professional sports career throughout their studies.
The ministry emphasized that the initiative reflects Qatar’s commitment to fostering an integrated approach to education and athletic development, aiming to build a workforce capable of contributing both on and off the field.
