Qatar participated in the 34th meeting of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) undersecretaries responsible for agriculture and food security, held virtually on September 2, 2026. The Qatari delegation was led by Ali bin Mohammed al-Ali, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Municipality.

During the meeting, al-Ali underscored Qatar’s dedication to enhancing collective Gulf efforts aimed at bolstering agricultural cooperation and ensuring food security across the region. He highlighted the importance of sustaining food supplies and tackling both global and regional challenges that impact the sector.

Key discussions centered on the ongoing implementation of the Gulf Food Security Strategy. This includes plans to establish strategic stockpiles encompassing food, medicines, and other essential supplies to improve resilience in times of crisis. Participants also explored ways to integrate artificial intelligence technologies into farm management systems to boost agricultural productivity.

Additional agenda items involved standardizing procedures related to medicines and veterinary products, increasing cooperation on aquatic and genetic resources, and monitoring progress on decisions made by the agricultural cooperation committee.

Al-Ali conveyed his appreciation to the GCC General Secretariat, the Kingdom of Bahrain as the current chair of the Council, and all relevant authorities for their continued efforts to promote collaboration within the Gulf region.
