Qatar took part in the 18th meeting of the Attorneys-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states, held recently in Bahrain. The Qatari delegation was led by Abdullah Mohammed al-Maliki, First Attorney-General and director of the Judicial Inspection Department at Qatar’s Public Prosecution.

The meeting focused on several key issues affecting the GCC public prosecution offices. Among the primary topics discussed were the development of guidelines for the use of artificial intelligence (AI) within prosecutorial operations and the creation of a mechanism to establish joint investigation teams among member states. These initiatives aim to enhance cross-border legal cooperation and improve the efficiency and integrity of prosecutorial functions across the GCC.

At the conclusion of the gathering, several officials from the member states’ public prosecution offices were recognized with the Hamed Al-Othman Award, which honors distinguished contributions to judicial and prosecutorial work in the region. Among the recipients was Turki Rashid al-Mohannadi, Public Prosecutor and director of the Institute of Criminal Studies at Qatar’s Public Prosecution.

The annual meeting provides a platform for GCC attorneys-general to coordinate on legal matters of mutual interest and to address emerging challenges within the region’s judicial frameworks. This year’s discussions underscored an increasing focus on technological integration and collaborative investigation efforts to strengthen the rule of law across GCC countries.
