The Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra (QPO) will perform an evening dedicated to the music of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky on September 14 at 7:30 p.m. at Auditorium 3 of the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC). The program will feature Tchaikovsky’s renowned Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat Minor, Op. 23, with South Korean pianist Jae Hong Park as the soloist. Park, the winner of the 2021 Busoni International Piano Competition, will perform under the direction of conductor Enrique Diemecke.

The concerto is a staple of the Romantic piano repertoire, celebrated for its powerful opening theme and technically demanding passages that challenge both soloist and orchestra. Following the concerto, the orchestra will present “Manfred,” Op. 58, a symphonic poem inspired by Lord Byron’s poem of a tormented wanderer. Known for its emotional depth and vivid orchestral colors, “Manfred” is regarded as one of Tchaikovsky’s most dramatic and cinematic compositions.

The Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra emphasized that the concert aims to highlight the emotional range of Tchaikovsky’s work, from the virtuosic brilliance of the piano concerto to the profound intensity of “Manfred.” The orchestra expressed excitement at welcoming both soloist Park and conductor Diemecke for the performance, describing the event as a chance for audiences to experience a powerful display of artistic mastery.
