Qatar has demonstrated notable resilience in maintaining and expanding its international trade and investment connections amidst recent geopolitical challenges, according to the country’s Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairs, Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed al-Sayed. Speaking during a panel discussion on rebuilding global value chains, Dr. al-Sayed emphasized Qatar’s commitment to enhancing its economic integration rather than withdrawing from global markets.
Addressing the session on “Rebuilding Global Value Chains for Growth and Resilience,” Dr. al-Sayed highlighted that Qatar is focused on strengthening supply chains, increasing access to international markets, boosting exports of both goods and services, and fostering global partnerships to attract investment and support domestic businesses. He underscored the nation’s intention to remain open and actively engage with diverse economies.
Qatar plans to leverage trade agreements and collaborative initiatives within frameworks such as the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to access new markets and expand the international footprint of its domestic companies. The country’s export strategy is evolving to place greater emphasis on services alongside traditional goods, reflecting its broader economic diversification goals.
In line with its strategic sectoral priorities, Qatar is intensifying efforts to develop its industrial base and manufacturing capabilities while prioritizing sectors such as logistics, advanced manufacturing, technology, and artificial intelligence (AI). Dr. al-Sayed noted that the government aims to “double down” on these areas to build sustainable growth and resilience.
Beyond trade, Qatar is positioning itself as a long-term global investor through both sovereign wealth funds and the private sector. Dr. al-Sayed described Qatar as a long-term investor rather than solely a destination for foreign direct investment (FDI), with plans to deepen international partnerships and ensure the resilience of its value chains in collaboration with regional and global partners.
“We will ensure resilience of our value chain and work together with our partners in GCC and globally,” he stated, reflecting the country’s strategy to maintain robust economic ties despite ongoing geopolitical uncertainties.
