Qatar Rail and Visit Qatar have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing visitor access to events and tourist sites through the country’s public transport network. The agreement, signed by Qatar Rail CEO Jassim Mohammed al-Ansari and Visit Qatar CEO Engineer Abdulaziz Ali al-Mawlawi, seeks to strengthen the integration between rail-based transport services and the tourism and events sectors in Qatar.
Under the partnership, Doha Metro and Lusail Tram services will play a central role in facilitating easier and more convenient travel options for both residents and visitors attending events or exploring major tourist destinations. Al-Ansari emphasized that the MoU reflects Qatar Rail’s commitment to supporting the tourism industry by promoting public transportation as a sustainable and accessible means of travel within the country.
The collaboration aims to create a more cohesive and efficient system to connect Qatar’s extensive calendar of events and activities with transportation infrastructure. This effort aligns with the nation’s broader goal of fostering a more integrated and sustainable tourism experience while bolstering Qatar’s reputation as a leading destination for international events and cultural activities.
Visit Qatar recently unveiled its Qatar Calendar 2026/2027, a comprehensive schedule featuring over 560 events, including festivals, championships, and other large-scale activities across the country. The calendar is designed to offer citizens, residents, and tourists a centralized source of information to plan their participation throughout the year. It also supports coordination among various sectors such as hospitality, retail, and tourism, facilitating economic growth tied to these events.
In addition to the MoU, Visit Qatar has introduced digital enhancements aimed at simplifying event discovery and access. These innovations include the planned launch of a unified digital ticketing platform in the fourth quarter of 2026 and the addition of a new Widget feature within the Visit Qatar mobile application. Through these tools, users can receive real-time event updates and manage their itineraries more effectively.
The Qatar Calendar and related digital services are accessible via Visit Qatar’s online platforms, providing a continuous stream of event information designed to enhance visitor engagement and encourage the use of public transportation options throughout the country.
