The Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has initiated the distribution of school bags to underprivileged students in Syria as part of its Back-to-School #MakeStudentsHappy 2026 campaign. The initiative aims to support children in vulnerable situations by providing essential educational supplies to facilitate their continued schooling.
Implemented in coordination with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent Society (SARCS), the program began distributing school bags in the Houla region of Homs governorate. The project is targeting approximately 8,200 students in this phase, with nearly 3,500 bags already delivered. Each bag contains notebooks, pens, stationery, and other necessary items intended to ease the financial burden on families and encourage regular school attendance.
Plans are underway to extend the distribution to additional areas, including towns in southern Al Hasakah and northern Deir Al Zor, where a further 8,200 school bags will be provided. This expansion aims to reach a larger number of students facing educational challenges due to economic hardships and regional instability.
This campaign is part of a broader QRCS fundraising initiative supporting education services across nine countries, including Palestine (Gaza), Jordan, Sudan, Yemen, Syria, Lebanon, Afghanistan, and Niger. With a total budget exceeding QR12 million, the program’s scope encompasses supplying school materials, maintaining and furnishing schools, and offering scholarships for specific university degrees. Over 24,000 students are projected to benefit from these efforts.
The campaign invites public participation through various channels, such as QRCS’s mobile application, donor services, home collection, and donation desks located in malls and shopping centers. The society has emphasized that these contributions are crucial in providing educational opportunities and building a more secure future for vulnerable children across the involved regions.
